Fires, deaths and injuries can result from rollover accidents

What happens to a vehicle and its occupants during a crash in which a vehicle flips is unpredictable. For example, some people survive rollover accidents with injuries that range from minor to severe, and some do not survive at all. This might be best illustrated by a crash that recently took place on 291-Highway here in Missouri.

Preliminary reports show that at approximately 4:20 a.m. on a recent Monday morning, a vehicle occupied by four friends was headed south on the highway when it crashed into a pole. It then flipped over and burst into flames. By the time emergency responders arrived, two of the occupants of the vehicle -- the 19-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger -- had succumbed to their injuries.

The other two passengers survived and were taken to a hospital in the area. At last report, emergency medical personnel transported the pair to a hospital in the area for treatment. Their current conditions were not reported.

Police are still attempting to ascertain what factors led to the accident. Investigators closed the portion of highway surrounding the scene while physical evidence and as much other information as possible pertaining to the crash was gathered. It could be some time before the final report is issued.

The information contained in that report could provide evidence for the family of the deceased passenger and the injured passengers to use in wrongful death or personal injury claims, as applicable, filed in a Missouri civil court. Successfully proving to the court that the accident was caused by the negligence of the driver could result in an award of damages. Any monies received could help defray the financial losses often incurred in the aftermath of deadly rollover accidents.
