Missouri drunk driving accidents often lead to injuries, death

Drunk driving can quickly lead to injuries or even death in Missouri. Those who have lost loved ones in drunk driving accidents may understandably question how such an accident could have happened. Unfortunately, one teenager recently died after being struck by an alleged drunken driver while standing near the roadway.

The Friday accident happened in the area of Highway 47 and Highway 30. It took place in the morning when the teenager, said to be 15, was waiting for his school bus. According to authorities, it was raining at the time of the crash, and a 23-year-old man was operating his vehicle too quickly. They report that he suddenly ended up losing control of the car.

The man's vehicle left the roadway and struck the teenager as well as a mailbox and then flipped. The teenager died, and the driver and vehicle passenger suffered injuries. The man was charged with driving under the influence as well as manslaughter. Some other individuals might also face charges associated with the accident since they were believed to have been operating their vehicles together in a reckless manner in the area of the accident.

The family of the teenage boy who died in the accident has the right to file a suit against the driver whose vehicle is believed to have struck and killed the boy. If the car driver is convicted of his charges, evidence of this may be presented in a related civil court proceeding in an effort to try to establish his liability in the fatal Missouri collision. Financial restitution in a successfully fought suit can help to cover burial costs and other losses tied to drunk driving accidents.
