Recent crash adds total of Missouri head-on collisions

It is an unfortunate truth that people die in numerous car accidents each year. It seems that one of the most deadly types of crashes both here in Missouri and around the country involve head-on collisions. In fact, on a recent Tuesday, a head-on crash took the lives of two drivers.

The crash occurred on Route F at approximately 5:15 p.m. Preliminary reports from troopers with the Missouri Highway Patrol indicate that a pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old veered into the oncoming lane of traffic. The pickup slammed into a minivan, which caused the minivan to leave the roadway and roll over.

Fortunately, the driver of that vehicle did not suffer any injuries. Another driver, however, was not as lucky. After hitting the minivan, the pickup truck plowed head-on into an SUV driven by a 42-year-old woman. She and the pickup truck driver suffered fatal injuries in that collision.

Two passengers in the SUV survived the crash but not without suffering unspecified injuries. Emergency medical personnel at the scene transported them both to a hospital in Springfield. Their current conditions are unknown.

A cleanup crew and an accident reconstruction team with the Missouri Highway Patrol were at the scene for hours before the road was reopened. Their final report may help the family of the deceased woman and the injured parties establish negligence on the part of the pickup truck driver with regard to any civil actions filed as a result of the crash. Damages typically seen in head-on collisions may be awarded if the court is satisfied that negligence was appropriately established.
