A truck accident can cause serious injuries

Eight people were injured on July 30 in an accident on Highway 30, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A truck accident can be deadly, and this accident resulted in numerous injuries and at least one van that was totaled. The accident happened at 3:47 p.m.

A 65-year-old man driving a big rig was headed east on the roadway. He tried to slow down, but his truck began to skid. It became airborne before it struck a van. It then overturned and struck another van head-on.

The truck driver had moderate injuries, and he was transported by ambulance to St. Anthony's Medical Center for treatment of those injuries. According to a hospital spokeswoman, he was in fair condition the next morning. There were no injuries from the first van that was hit.

The second van that was driven by a 30-year-old man. He was taken to ambulance to St. Anthony's and was in serious condition at last report. Six passengers in that van were injured. Two of those victims suffered serious injuries. The other four, which included three children, were all moderately injured.

Victims of a truck accident have the right to file a suit in a Missouri civil court. To prevail, they will need to establish financial liability in court by appropriate proof negligence. When, as appears to have been the case here, the party deemed responsible is a commercial truck driver, claims may be filed against the driver as well as the driver's employer. The best first step for an injured victim is to consult with an attorney experienced in handling monetary claims arising out of accidents involving big rigs.
