Former employee alleges racial discrimination

In Missouri, all too many workers endure breaches of their rights as employees every day at work. Sadly, there are many employers who take advantage of their employees, or treat them unfairly. Sometimes it is a case of paying them too little or requiring them to work longer hours than is legal. In other cases, employers favor certain employees for reasons that are irrelevant to the job.

In one such case, a former employee of a cupcake bar in Missouri has accused his employer at the business of racial discrimination. According to the lawsuit, the employee had approached the owner of the bakery regarding a racial slur uttered by another worker. He was allegedly sent home later that day, then fired a few days after making the complaint. Furthermore, it has been reported that the employee said to have uttered the slur did not receive disciplinary action.

It was also alleged that the cupcake bar held different standards for employees depending on their race. This is said to have included expectations regarding the dress code and also attendance. It has also been reported that the business faced a previous lawsuit over a similar matter. In this other case, it was alleged that reports of racial harassment were ignored by the bakery's owner.

If you have had your rights as an employee breached in any way, you may be wondering where to turn or who can help you. Fortunately, there is assistance available, and an attorney may be the ally you need at this challenging time. He or she can advise you on the steps you can take to challenge your employer, and may be able to guide you through the process if you decide to take legal action.
