Motorcyclists face injuries more serious than road rash

Motorcycles have just as much right to be on Missouri's roadways as other passenger vehicles. The problem is that their riders are much more vulnerable to injury than those in enclosed vehicles are if an accident occurs. Motorcyclists often face more serious injuries than just road rash, such as serious head injuries and spinal cord injuries.

An accident in which the occupants of a passenger car are able to walk away with minor to moderate injuries can change the life of a motorcycle rider forever -- if he or she even survives. Drivers tend to forget this when they are sharing the streets or highways with a motorcycle. In many accidents that involve motorcycles, the driver believed to be responsible for the crash claims not to have seen the smaller vehicle.

The carelessness of another driver can lead to injuries from which you might not be able to fully recover. Head and spinal cord injuries can lead to lifelong issues for you or a loved one. Many people might not consider road rash a serious injury, but it can leave you disfigured and even require the amputation of a limb. In some cases, the motorcycle rider does not survive, and surviving family members are faced with expenses and financial losses they did not expect.

Whether you suffered road rash, broken bones or other serious injuries, you have the right to file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver believed to be the cause of your injuries. In the alternative, if you lost a loved one in a motorcycle accident, you might be able to file a wrongful death claim. In either case, if a Missouri court rules that the negligent actions of another party or parties caused the injuries or death, you could be awarded damages to help with your financial losses.
