Many motorcycle accidents result in traumatic brain injuries

Motorcycle riders are in a precarious position on Missouri's roadways since they do not have the same protections that occupants of passenger cars have, yet they can travel at high speed. They often suffer traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) in accidents, regardless of whether they were wearing helmets. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health have identified six brain functions that appear to be affected most often in those who suffer from TBIs, and they can be life-altering.

Motorcyclists face injuries more serious than road rash

Motorcycles have just as much right to be on Missouri's roadways as other passenger vehicles. The problem is that their riders are much more vulnerable to injury than those in enclosed vehicles are if an accident occurs. Motorcyclists often face more serious injuries than just road rash, such as serious head injuries and spinal cord injuries.

Rollover accidents can have unpredictable outcomes

Vehicle safety measures such as airbags and seat belts are installed to minimize or eliminate the injuries that drivers and passengers suffer in accidents. However, the unpredictability of certain types of collisions -- such as rollover accidents -- can render these safety measures useless. Some Missouri residents still suffer severe or deadly injuries despite a vehicle safeguards to prevent them.

Crashes can cause serious head injuries or death in Missouri

Motorcyclists must exercise significant caution when on the road, since those particular types of vehicles leave their bodies exposed, as opposed to a regular passenger car with a metal body encasing the driver and passengers. Understandably, those riding motorcycles have a higher chance of serious head injuries, spinal cord injuries and even death when an accident  does occur. Unfortunately, one biker's death underscored how dangerous riding a motorcycle can be after a recent crash in Missouri.

Kansas City area motorcyclists creating dangerous traffic issues

In the best conditions motorcycle accidents are an all too common occurrence on roads throughout the Kansas City, Missouri area. Due to a variety of factors, drivers of automobiles may fail to see the smaller vehicles on the road. While all motor vehicle accidents have the potential to be result in serious injuries, those in which a car or truck goes up against a motorcycle more often result in an injury to the individual on the motorcycle. In the worst cases these motorcycle accidents result in death.

As winter winds down, motorcycles take to Kansas City roads

Even as states throughout the nation contend with early spring snow storms, residents of the Kansas City, Missouri area know that spring weather is right around the corner. For many, the warmer temperatures and dry roads mean only one thing-it's time to get the motorcycle out. While bikers may be prepared for it, many drivers of cars likely are not.

Spring Safety Tips to Avoid Missouri Motorcycle Accidents

One sign of spring is the number of motorcycles increases on local roads. Many people wait in anticipation for the first warm days to get their bike on the road after the chilly winter months. With more motorcycles on the road, the danger of Kansas City motorcycle accidents increase especially as other motorists may not yet expect to see bikes.

Novelty Motorcycle Helmets May be Dangerous

Novelty motorcycle helmets are appearing in greater numbers as non-certified manufacturers generate many new models and unusual styles. A novelty helmet is one that may carry a specific theme or unusual design with the intent of giving the rider a unique appearance. The problem with these non-certified helmets is that they give the rider a sense of security that may not exist. Head trauma injury is the number one critical damage that a rider can suffer in a motorcycle accident and these novelty helmets do not prevent it.

European Motorcycle Safety Study Provides Tips to Avoid Accidents

Safety researchers have long studied the causes of motorcycle accidents, but a European group has published a study it claims is the most comprehensive to date. Notably, the research incorporated data about riders who did not crash, which allowed researchers to examine how crashing riders differ from riders who do not and to identify significant risk factors in motorcycle accidents.
