Car accidents occur every single day on Missouri roads. Some are more severe than others, but many of them end up in someone being injured. Some of the more serious car accidents include head-on collisions and drunk driving accidents. When both of those are combined, it can result in unfortunate fatalities.
A recent head-on collision in Kansas City has taken the life of a 45-year-old man. His vehicle was struck by another vehicle, which had apparently crossed over into his lane. Another vehicle was also involved, but that was fortunately able to leave the accident physically unscathed. The 45-year-old man, however, was taken to a local hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
The 20-year-old suspect has been charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter. He is currently in a local hospital receiving medical treatment for injuries he sustained in the crash. He had blood drawn a little over an hour after the crash occurred and his blood alcohol content level was reported as being three times above the Missouri state legal limit.
Drunk driving accidents seem to occur more frequently than most Missouri residents would like. However, when these types of collisions do occur, the victim or the family of a deceased victim generally has the right to pursue legal action in a civil court. It can be requested that the individual who caused the accident due to negligent driving and careless operation of a vehicle reimburse the victim or the victim’s family for medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost wages and other related damages. A personal injury or wrongful death claim can be filed in civil court even if the government has decided to pursue criminal charges.
