It remains a rite of passage for teenagers in Missouri and elsewhere in the country to get their driver’s licenses. Parents trust their newly licensed teens to be out on the roadways despite the fact that they have little experience behind the wheel. Unfortunately, the only way to gain the needed experience behind the wheel is to get out on the roadways. This makes these inexperienced drivers particularly at risk for serious collisions, such as rollover accidents.
For example, recently two Missouri teens were out in a pickup truck at around noon. At some point, the 16-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle. It then veered off the roadway and rolled over.
Despite the fact that the driver and his 15-year-old passenger were wearing their seat belts, they both suffered injuries that were considered to be serious. They were transported by emergency medical personnel to a hospital in the area for treatment. Their current conditions were not available at the time of this writing.
The Missouri Highway Patrol did not report whether they know what caused the teen to lose control of the pickup truck. It is not known whether any charges are being contemplated in connection with the crash. Perhaps just as important is the fact that the family of the teenage passenger retains the right to file a personal injury claim against the parties who can be held legally liable for the crash, which will most likely include the owner of the pickup truck. Successfully establishing liability on the part of one or more of the named parties could result in an award of damages similar to those often handed down after rollover accidents.
