Surviving accidents anywhere in the country — including here in Missouri — depends on many factors, and in some cases, some people would even say that luck plays a part. However, many head-on collisions result in such intense impacts that many people lose their lives in them. If vehicle occupants are lucky enough to survive, they often suffer serious injuries.
It was sometime before 9:30 p.m. on a recent Friday night when a vehicle driven by a 42-year-old man was on Missouri Route 371 headed north. As he attempted to make a turn, he slammed into another vehicle. Two people — the 55-year-old driver and the 33-year-old passenger — occupied the second vehicle.
All three individuals involved survived the crash, but all did suffer serious injuries. The nature and extent of their injuries was not released, and they were taken to hospitals in the area for treatment. Reports indicated that only one person was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, while the other two were not. It is not yet known whether any charges are being contemplated against the driver believed to have caused the accident.
An incomplete investigation does not mean that the other driver and/or the passenger have to wait to see whether criminal charges will be filed before filing personal injury claims in a Missouri civil court. If the evidence establishes that the northbound driver’s actions caused or contributed to the injuries suffered by the victims, the court could consider awarding damages, such as medical costs, lost wages and others, often seen in cases involving head-on collisions. Any monies received because of such litigation could be used to defray the financial burdens associated with the victims’ injuries.
